Saigon Kitchen has been a family-owned and operated restaurant in Downtown Hartford since 1985. What began as a small neighborhood restaurant has grown into a trusted local favorite, serving Asian-American cuisine rooted in tradition and made with care.
For nearly four decades, our family has been dedicated to providing flavorful, affordable dishes while maintaining the same values that opened our doors—hard work, consistency, and genuine hospitality. Our menu blends classic Chinese-American favorites with pan-Asian inspired creations, offering something familiar and something new for every guest.
A Culinary Journey Rooted in Tradition
Born and raised in what was formerly known as Saigon, Vietnam, Chef Nam was immersed in food and cooking from an early age. Growing up in a traditional Chinese household while living in Vietnam exposed him to a wide range of authentic pan-Asian flavors, techniques, and ingredients. Coming from a third-generation family in the food and beverage industry, Nam began working in kitchens as young as nine years old.
In the late 1970s, Nam immigrated to the United States and settled in Connecticut. As he adapted to a new country and culture, he continued his culinary journey by working in several Chinese restaurants, learning through hands-on experience. He trained under accomplished chefs, progressing from apprentice roles to sous chef and executive chef positions. This real-world experience became the foundation of his craft as a self-taught chef.
The Birth of Saigon Kitchen
With a clear vision and a passion for cooking, Nam knew he wanted to open his own restaurant. Together with his wife, Minh, whose business insight and leadership played a vital role, they set out to create a place that served fast, hot, and fresh Asian cuisine—food that was flavorful, satisfying, and affordable.
In August 1985, Saigon Kitchen officially opened its doors. What began as a small family venture quickly grew into a local favorite, built on consistency, quality ingredients, and care in every dish.
